Ardbeg Kelpie
Ardbeg Kelpie
Kelpie is the 2017 limited-edition whisky released to celebrate Ardbeg Day. Named after the kelpie, a legendary water demon said to live in the Atlantic Ocean, the new expression is the first Ardbeg whisky matured in Black Sea oak casks which is then married with traditional Ardbeg, aged in ex-bourbon barrels. Non-chillfiltered and bottled at 46%. 750ml
Nose: Powerful with oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, hints of seaweed, and a curious, sharp herbal note. Waves of spicy black pepper along with some classic Ardbeg notes, such as creamy coffee, smoked fudge and pine resin.
Palate: A peppery mouthfeel is followed by treacle toffee, Turkish coffee, smoky bacon and lots of dark chocolate. A curious burst of peachy, estery fruit, hickory wood, clove oil and a suggestion of black olives.
Finish: A long finish with deep flavours of clove, tar, and rich toffee.
