Balcones Eclipse Rye Whisky

Balcones Eclipse Texas Straight Rye is a bold, limited cask-strength rye whiskey from Balcones Distilling in Waco, Texas. Released in 2022, Eclipse was produced from 100% Texas-grown rye, pot distilled and matured in new charred American oak before being bottled at a formidable 64% ABV (128 proof).

Eclipse was co-fermented using ale and whisky yeasts, adding complexity to its intensely concentrated rye character. The combination of Texas maturation, new oak and full cask-strength bottling creates a powerful profile of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel, earthy rye and warming spice. 

A distinctive release outside Balcones’ standard Texas Rye range, Eclipse offers strong collector appeal for enthusiasts of high-proof American whiskey and unusual Texas rye.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dark caramel, cocoa, cinnamon and toasted rye with tobacco, oak, orange zest and hints of ripe banana.

Palate: Rich and creamy with earthy rye spice, espresso, molasses and dark chocolate, followed by black pepper, caramel and touches of stone fruit.

Finish: Long, dry and warming with cinnamon, charred oak, lingering rye spice, caramel and dark chocolate.
