Bowmore Voyage Port Cask is a discontinued Islay single malt Scotch whisky from Bowmore Distillery, renowned for its distinctive combination of maritime peat smoke, mature oak and rich port-cask influence.
Released in the early 2000s, Bowmore Voyage represents an earlier generation of the distillery's experimental wood-matured expressions, created to explore the relationship between traditional Islay whisky and fortified-wine casks.
The whisky was initially matured in American oak bourbon casks before undergoing additional maturation in port wine casks, developing a distinctive balance of smoky coastal character and rich red-fruit sweetness.
Bottled at a robust 56% ABV, Bowmore Voyage offers an intense yet beautifully layered flavour profile, with notes of ripe berries, dark chocolate, honeyed malt, warming spice and gentle maritime smoke.
Its port-cask influence introduces a rich, fruity dimension to Bowmore's characteristic peat and coastal minerality, creating an expression that is both powerful and refined.
Now discontinued, Bowmore Voyage is an appealing historical bottling for collectors of older Bowmore releases, high-strength Islay single malts and distinctive wine-cask-matured Scotch whiskies.
A fascinating example of Bowmore's earlier approach to secondary cask maturation, combining traditional distillery character with the richness of port-seasoned oak.
**Bottled at 56%abv, 700ml.
**Bottle number 1343.
