Octomore 17.2 – 5 Year Old, 700ml, 59.5% ABV is an exceptional super-heavily peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky from Bruichladdich Distillery, released in September 2026 as part of the acclaimed Octomore Series 17.
Distilled from 100% Scottish mainland-grown Concerto barley, malted to 81.0 PPM, Octomore 17.2 explores the remarkable influence of unusual cask maturation on the distillery's intensely peated spirit.
While its companion release, Octomore 17.1, is matured entirely in first-fill bourbon barrels, 17.2 undergoes a distinctive maturation in second-fill French oak casks previously used for bourbon, followed by finishing in first-fill port wine barriques.
This unique combination of casks introduces an extraordinary depth of red fruit, sweet spice and rich oak character, beautifully complementing Octomore's signature powerful peat smoke.
On the nose, ripe raspberries, blackcurrant preserve and floral sweetness mingle with toasted oak, clove, aniseed and smouldering wood smoke.
The palate is rich and mouth-coating, revealing layers of wine-poached berries, strawberries, dark fruit syrup and sweet barley, balanced by peppery peat smoke and vibrant citrus oils.
The finish is long and luxurious, with lingering raisins, toasted oak, maritime salt and persistent earthy smoke.
Bottled at a formidable 59.5% ABV, without chill filtration or added colouring, Octomore 17.2 demonstrates Bruichladdich's ability to balance intense peat with elegance and sophisticated cask influence.
A highly desirable limited annual release for collectors of Octomore, innovative wine-cask-matured Scotch whisky and exceptional peated Islay single malts.
