Diageo Collectivum XXVIII 2017

Collectivum XXVIII – Diageo Special Releases 2017 is a unique blended malt Scotch whisky created from single malts produced at all 28 operational malt distilleries owned by Diageo at the time of release. The name XXVIII represents 28 in Roman numerals, celebrating the remarkable diversity of Diageo’s Scotch whisky portfolio in a single bottling.

Released as part of the prestigious Diageo Special Releases 2017 collection and bottled at a natural 57.3% ABV, Collectivum XXVIII brings together malt whiskies from renowned distilleries including Lagavulin, Talisker, Caol Ila, Clynelish, Oban, Mortlach and many others. The result is remarkably layered, moving between rich fruit, citrus, nuts, dark chocolate, spice and restrained smoke.

This unusual one-off release was also named Scotch Vatted Malt of the Year in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2019. Discontinued and increasingly difficult to find, Collectivum XXVIII offers exceptional collector appeal as one of the most ambitious blended malts ever included in Diageo’s annual Special Releases.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh apple and citrus peel with toasted nuts, vanilla and sweet malt, developing dark chocolate, dried fruit and delicate smoke.

Palate: Rich and complex with orange and lemon zest, dark chocolate, orchard fruit and roasted nuts, followed by cinnamon, pepper, sweet malt and gentle maritime smoke.

Finish: Long and warming with lingering citrus, cocoa, toasted oak, cinnamon spice and a subtle smoky dryness.
