Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix

Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix Limited Edition – 750ml 47.6% ABV is a one-off Speyside single malt Scotch whisky released in 2010, born from one of the most dramatic events in Glenfiddich’s modern history.

On 7 January 2010, exceptionally heavy snow caused several warehouse roofs at Glenfiddich in Dufftown to collapse, exposing hundreds of maturing casks to extreme winter conditions. Malt Master Brian Kinsman selected whisky from the affected warehouses and married casks of different ages and styles to create Snow Phoenix.

The resulting whisky combines American oak and Oloroso sherry casks, with specialist records identifying component whiskies ranging from approximately 13 to 30 years old. Despite containing significantly aged whisky, Snow Phoenix was deliberately released without an age statement. It was bottled at a robust 47.6% ABV and was non-chill filtered.

The 750ml version is a documented export-market presentation of this release. Snow Phoenix is now discontinued and has become one of the more distinctive collectible Glenfiddich limited editions from the modern era.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Creamy vanilla, fresh apple and pear with floral notes, honey and gentle oak.

Palate: Rich orchard fruit with baked apple, heather honey and chocolate, developing burnt sugar, coffee, spice and subtle wood smoke.

Finish: Exceptionally long, with dry sherry character gradually giving way to lingering sweetness.
