Glenrothes 2009 16 Year Old – Black Friday 2025 (Master of Malt) is a limited single-cask Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, distilled at Glenrothes on 1 May 2009 and bottled by Master of Malt on 1 September 2025 after 16 years of maturation.
The whisky spent its entire maturation in a single Oloroso sherry butt and was bottled at its natural cask strength of 58.5% ABV, with natural colour. Only 630 bottles were produced, making this one of Master of Malt’s special limited releases created for Black Friday 2025.
The long Oloroso maturation gives the whisky a rich dessert-like profile of toffee, chocolate, ginger cake and brown sugar, balanced by robust malt, drying oak and dark fruit. Its combination of 16-year age statement, single Oloroso butt maturation, natural cask strength and 630-bottle outturn makes it particularly appealing for collectors of independent Glenrothes and sherry-matured Speyside whisky.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Toffee and chocolate wafers with ginger loaf, milky coffee and brown sugar, developing guava, buttered malt bread and creamy hazelnut.
Palate: Robust malt and drying oak followed by molasses, chewy toffee, creamy caramel and buttery fudge, with chocolate, maple sweetness and hints of strawberry.
Finish: Berries and spiced apple cake with lingering tannic oak, chocolate malt and a touch of icing-sugar sweetness.
