Johnnie Walker Gold Label 18 Year Old – The Centenary Blend is the original age-stated Gold Label and a discontinued blended Scotch whisky created from the blending notes associated with Alexander Walker II. The expression was introduced in the 1990s and took its name from a blend originally conceived to commemorate 100 years of the John Walker business.
Every whisky in the blend was matured for at least 18 years, producing a richer and more mature style than the later non-age-stated Gold Label Reserve. Period bottles of The Centenary Blend are documented in several formats, including 750ml at 43% ABV and 70cl at 40% ABV, so the exact specification should follow the individual bottle label. This is the 750ml 43% bottling.
The Centenary Blend combines honeyed fruit, vanilla and creamy toffee with dried fruit, gentle oak, spice and restrained smoke. Its 18-year age statement, original Gold Label presentation and discontinued status distinguish it clearly from today's Gold Label Reserve, making it particularly appealing to collectors of older Johnnie Walker releases.
