Kilchoman Machir Bay 2021 Edition Cask Strength
Kilchoman Machir Bay 2021 Edition Cask Strength
A cask strength, limited release from the Kilchoman distillery on Islay. This 2021 edition is produced using the same vatting recipe as the standard Machir Bay, matured in a combination of predominantly ex-bourbon barrels with a small portion of ex-Oloroso sherry butts but bottled at cask strength instead of the standard 46%. 18,828 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at a cask strength of 58.3%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Intense waves of fresh green apple followed by candied tropical fruits. Dry, earthy peat smoke become the backbone for this release.
Palate: Citrus notes of lemon and orange peel. As the whisky opens it reveals a dominant honeycomb-sweetness that makes way for milk chocolate, provided by a bourbon-rich maturation.
Finish: A slight cracked black pepper spice with nutmeg. The oily, rich texture delivers an increasingly smoky influence. Overall, a unique balance of heavily peated malt, slow distillation, and oak character.
