Kilchoman Machir Bay Cask Strength

Kilchoman Machir Bay Cask Strength is a limited-edition, full-strength interpretation of Kilchoman Distillery’s flagship Islay single malt. It uses the same core vatting recipe as standard Machir Bay—built around ex-bourbon barrels with a smaller Oloroso sherry cask component—but is bottled without being reduced to the standard 46% ABV.

The 58.1% ABV edition delivers Machir Bay’s signature combination of vibrant citrus, tropical fruit and maritime peat with considerably greater weight and intensity. Kilchoman uses heavily peated malt, around 50 PPM, while the classic Machir Bay recipe is approximately 90% bourbon and 10% Oloroso sherry casks.

Produced in limited quantities rather than as part of the regular core range, Machir Bay Cask Strength is an excellent collector’s expression and an especially compelling bottle for fans of powerful, youthful Islay peat.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Intense peat smoke with tropical fruit, fresh citrus, vanilla and caramel, accompanied by floral and mineral notes.

Palate: Full-bodied and warming with creamy malt, lemon and candied citrus, sweet vanilla, toffee and maritime peat smoke, followed by gentle spice.

Finish: Long and powerful with lingering smoke, vanilla, toasted coconut and a subtle coastal salinity.
