The Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak – 1990s Bottling 750ml 43% ABV is a highly collectible vintage Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from an earlier era of Macallan production. Period 1990s examples in the 750ml / 75cl format at 43% ABV are well documented, including US-market bottles imported by Rémy Amerique.

Unlike later Macallan ranges that incorporated different cask styles, this old 12 Year Old was matured exclusively in selected sherry oak casks from Jerez, Spain. Contemporary specialist records describe Macallan bottlings from around 1990 as coming from 100% sherry-cask maturation, giving these older releases the rich, weighty sherry character for which vintage Macallan became famous.

The whisky combines dried fruits, raisins and orange with dark chocolate, nuts, polished oak and warming cinnamon and clove spice. The classic cream presentation box—often featuring an illustration of Macallan’s Easter Elchies House—further distinguishes these discontinued bottles from modern Macallan 12 Year Old releases.

For collectors, the combination of 1990s provenance, 43% strength, 750ml format and traditional full sherry-cask maturation makes this a particularly desirable old-style Macallan 12. Bottle and labels in excellent condition.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich dried fruits, raisins and orange peel with dark honey, polished oak, toasted nuts and old-fashioned sherry richness.

Palate: Full and rounded with raisins, dates and stewed fruit, followed by dark chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts and mature sherry oak with cinnamon and clove spice.

Finish: Long and warming with lingering dried fruit, cocoa, oak, nuts and sweet baking spice. Specialist descriptions of circa-1990 bottles particularly note the heavier fruit, sherry oak, clove and cinnamon character associated with Macallan from this period.
