The Macallan 1874 Replica is a fascinating and highly collectible Speyside single malt created to reproduce the bottle presentation, aroma and flavour profile of an antique Macallan believed to date from 1874. The expression became the first release in Macallan's Replica series, with the widely encountered release bottled in 2002 at 45% ABV.

The whisky itself was constructed using mature stocks with a strong Fino sherry cask influence; one specialist account describes a vatting of nine casks averaging around 18 years old. Its profile differs notably from the richer Oloroso-driven style associated with many later Macallans, showing brighter citrus, nuts, spice and drier sherry character.

The history behind the Replica series adds considerable collector interest. Macallan later discovered that antique whiskies used as references for the Replica project were not authentic 19th-century bottlings. Despite that controversy, the discontinued Replica series—including 1841, 1861, 1874 and 1876—has developed a strong following among Macallan collectors.
