SMWS 93.224 Doon Aroon the Toon

SMWS 93.224 “Doon Aroon the Toon” – 8 Year Old Glen Scotia – 59.9% ABV is a single-cask Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky bottled by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

Distilled at Glen Scotia on 16 June 2016, it matured for eight years in a 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel before being bottled at a natural cask strength of 59.9% ABV. Only 221 bottles were produced. SMWS classifies the whisky within its Oily & Coastal flavour profile.

“Doon Aroon the Toon” is a particularly coastal expression of Glen Scotia, combining fresh citrus, maritime salinity and oily texture with vanilla, herbs and waxy notes. The combination of a single first-fill bourbon barrel, high natural strength and very small 221-bottle outturn gives this release strong appeal to collectors and Campbeltown whisky enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Exceptionally fresh and coastal, with sea air, wet beach pebbles and mint alongside vanilla, coconut, sandalwood, lemongrass and preserved lemon.

Palate: Bright and oily with white flowers, grassy olive oil and citrus, developing farmhouse cider, wax, menthol and coastal mineral notes.

Finish: Long, fresh and maritime with lemon oil, wax, cooling menthol and a savoury saline character. The official SMWS panel also noted touches reminiscent of cloudy lemonade and shellfish broth after dilution.
