That Boutique-y Whisky Company Balcones Corn Whisky 2 Year Old Batch 4

Balcones 2 Year Old Batch #4 – That Boutique-y Corn Company is a highly limited Texas corn spirit released by That Boutique-y Whisky Company as part of its Wine Cask Series MMXXI.

Produced at Balcones Distilling in Waco, Texas, this expression was made from blue corn and uses Balcones’ unusual smoking method, in which the spirit itself is smoked rather than the grain. It was then matured for two years in a Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry cask, creating a powerful combination of dark fruit, chocolate, sweet sherry and smoky Texas character.

Batch #4 was bottled at 50% ABV in a 500ml bottle, with an exceptionally small outturn of just 271 bottles. Whiskybase records the release as a 2021 Wine Cask Series MMXXI bottling.

Its tiny production, experimental PX maturation and distinctive smoked blue-corn spirit make Batch #4 a particularly unusual collectible Balcones independent bottling.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dark chocolate and blackcurrant with treacle, liquorice, charred oak and smoky barbecue notes.

Palate: Sweet and concentrated with prunes, figs, dates and raisins, developing coffee, tobacco, chilli spice and woody smoke.

Finish: Dry and persistent with dark chocolate sweetness, charred wood and lingering smoke.
